Cutting carbon

The key role Cardiff academics are taking to revolutionise energy research and help Welsh businesses develop innovative carbon reduction projects and meet strict carbon emission targets is showcased in a new short film.

The Low Carbon Research Institute (LCRI) is an all-Wales university research project led by the University’s Welsh School of Architecture.

Funded by the European Research Development Fund (ERDF’s) Convergence programme it is designed to help Wales and Welsh Universities lead the way in the development of new research to cut carbon emissions.

The project provides a strategic, coordinated approach for interdisciplinary industrial energy research in Wales and provides a research base for the energy sector industries to help them deliver government targets for reducing carbon dioxide emissions and enable these industries to compete on an international stage.

Professor Phil Jones, Head of The Welsh School of Architecture and Chair of the Low Carbon Research Institute said: "The LCRI Convergence Energy Programme is a unique collaboration of Welsh Universities partnering local industries to provide a comprehensive cross disciplinary energy research base to support the Welsh Government’s low carbon policies.

"This short film will hopefully help explain the extent of our work and encourage even greater collaboration with academia, business and beyond."
