HRH The Duchess of Cornwall opened a new auditorium at The Queen’s College on Thursday November 17.

The 120-seat Shulman Auditorium is on the site of the college’s Nun’s Garden and will be used for lectures, recitals, drama performances and film projection.

The Duchess met students, staff, fellows and old members of Queen’s, including Rowan Atkinson.

Professor Paul Madden, Provost of The Queen’s College, said: ‘We were delighted to welcome HRH The Duchess of Cornwall to Queen's and we were pleased that she was able to meet so many students, members of staff, and Fellows. The Shulman Auditorium will be a major asset for the College and University community.’

He added: ‘It is a beautiful and versatile building, and we have already made use of it as a lecture hall, a recital room, a cinema, and a theatre. We are very grateful to Vadim Shulman for his generous donation towards the cost of its construction.’

The Shulman Auditorium was designed by Berman Guedes Stretton and was completed in September 2011. The college’s medieval walls have been incorporated into the building’s design.
