Faculty of Theology plans name change
The Faculty of Theology plans to change its name to the Faculty of Theology and Religion from October 2012, subject to approval from the Council of the University.
The change of name continues to reflect the Faculty’s longstanding traditions of Christian Theology, while acknowledging the greater breadth of teaching and research found in the Faculty today.
Professor Sarah Foot, Faculty board chairman, said: ‘The Faculty is strongly committed to providing students with the opportunity to pursue a focused degree course in Theology as well as offering a wider choice of topics and approaches in the study of religion. We believe that the new name makes clear the breadth and depth of teaching, research, and learning that characterize today’s Faculty and will be helpful in attracting new undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as affirming the intellectual range of Faculty members’ interests.’
The proposal will be considered by Council in January 2012.
