First Episcopal ordination at the University of Glasgow since Scottish Reformation
21 September 2011 - GLASGOW
The first ordination since the Scottish Reformation of an Episcopal Chaplain will take place at the University of Glasgow’s chapel this Sunday.
Kevin Francis, Chaplain to the University’s Anglican/Episcopalian community, will be ordained Deacon by the Bishop of Glasgow and Galloway, the Rt Rev’d Gregor Duncan, on Sunday 25th September at 2pm in the University Chapel. The University’s Vice Principal, Professor Neal Juster will welcome those attending on behalf of the University.
Kevin Francis is currently an Anglican/Episcopalian Lay Chaplain. Once the ordination has taken place, he will become Rev’d Kevin Francis.
Kevin Francis: his reaction to his ordination
The University has an active Anglican presence with members from the international Anglican community as well as the Scottish Episcopal Church.
Kevin Francis says “I am delighted to be ordained as a Deacon in the Scottish Episcopal Church and serve as Anglican Chaplain at the University of Glasgow. I look forward to continuing my work with the Anglican community in the University.”
Professor Neal Juster says “Kevin Francis’ ordination is a significant event in his life and in the history of the University. The event signals the University’s commitment to all faiths as we welcome students from around the world to a new academic session”.
