Inventors invited to bring their creations to Nottingham Contemporary

Inspired by the weird and wonderful inventions in the current exhibition by Klaus Weber, budding inventors are being invited to bring their brainchildren to an Inventors Clinic at Nottingham Contemporary on Saturday 29th October, between 1pm–4pm.

Seven experts from The University of Nottingham will help to nurse their inventions out of the garden shed and into the shops. The experts will be on hand to give free, impartial, practical and business advice to anyone with an invention or idea they want to get off the ground.

If you are not an inventor yourself, there will still be plenty to interest you. Experience live demonstrations of some of the many inventions that have come from The University of Nottingham itself — including a heart rate monitor for babies, colour-changing window film, swirly pipes, and the Glo-yo hand hygiene training device.

George Rice, who runs the University’s Technology Demonstrator, said: “It’s very exciting to get a chance to exhibit some of our University inventions at Nottingham Contemporary.

“In doing this, we hope to inspire inventors of the future to build on the strong history of innovation in Nottingham — from Sir Peter Mansfield, who developed magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners which are now used over 60 million times a year worldwide, through to our current crop of world-leading researchers.

“They’re dedicated to generating new knowledge and discoveries that will create products and services for the future. At Nottingham Contemporary this weekend, we’ll be showcasing technology that could be used by residents of the city in the next three to five years. If you come along, you’ll be able to say you saw it at Nottingham Contemporary first!”

Health — Kim Hardie, Associate Professor and inventorProduct

Environment — Gérald Busca, Environmental Technology Centre

Business — Paul Yeomans, Business Engagement and Innovation Services

Patents — Simon Cooper, Adamson Jones Patent Agency
