MP joins city debate on global recession
3 November 2011 - PLYMOUTH
The event by the ‘The Disputables’, supported by Peninsula Arts with Plymouth University will provide a key political perspective on the economic downturn in the first topic in its debating series.
‘Should austerity be embraced or rejected?’ has already attracted a lot of attention given the timely subject matter and the focus is on whether or not austerity should be welcomed or completely challenged.
Director of Peninsula Arts, Sarah Chapman said: “We are currently living through a global recession, with talk of a possible double dip depression adding to the economic woe. Some see real virtue in a sustained period of restraint and caution, while others are hungry for growth to return.
“In such a fearful climate a panel of business people, writers and cultural commentators will come together to discuss this hot topic.”
The panel includes local businessman Danny Bamping of Bedlam Cubes and Associate Professor Simon Ashby from Plymouth University’s Business School, alongside Daniel Ben-Ami, author of ‘Ferraris for Everyone'.
The free event is aimed at those interested in understanding how businesses might face up to the challenges of the global financial crisis, but also why it is important for all of us to think about how we might achieve greater affluence for all.
It takes place on Friday 4 November from 8.30pm at The Duke of Cornwall Hotel, Plymouth.
