Olympic prize on offer to festival goers

Digital arts enthusiasts are being offered the chance to have their work showcased in a spectacular 360 arena during the Olympic and Paralympic events in Weymouth next year.

The ICCI (Innovation for the Creative and Cultural Industries) multimedia facility will be part of the programme being brought to the annual Shepton Mallet festival.

ICCI will be showcasing an exciting range of film and animation productions created by artists and filmmakers from across the world at the three day event, along with digital media and panoramic photography.

Free workshops will be available for visitors to learn more about the 360 film making and design process, as well as camera operations and design considerations for the large scale immersive dome.

Based within Plymouth University’s Faculty of Arts, ICCI, in collaboration with Igloo Vision, have kitted out the dome-shaped structure with state of the art equipment including a large circular screen and HD projection facilities to create an immersive experience.

Martin Woolner, Director of ICCI, said: “We are looking to build on the tradition of touring panoramas, to showcase the creative talents of regional, national and international artists.

“We hope to show visitors to the dome its potential to delight, inform, entertain and engage audiences, and give film makers and designers a stepping stone to entertaining the masses with their work during the 2012 Olympics.”

The Digital Arts Festival in Shepton Mallet runs from 6th to 8th October 2011 and includes free workshops, a showcase competition, MusicFest, Inspire Cinema and a digital art exhibition.
