Poetry celebration at the University
The Alumni Reading on 22 September celebrates the University’s relationship with poetry over the years and will feature displays from the Library as well as readings from students and staff.
The Reading will take place:
On: Thursday 22 September
At: 5.30pm, for a 6pm start - finish at 7.30pm
In: Brotherton Room, Special Collections, Brotherton Library
The Alumni Reading is part of the The Leeds Independent Presses Poetry Festival (LIPPfest) 2011, which kicks off on 24 September at the Carriageworks Theatre, Leeds with a programme of readings from twenty-five poets, six workshops, symposiums and publishing talks.
An independent presses bookfair will give people the chance to browse and purchase literature from a range of literature not stocked on the shelves of your average bookshop.
On top of the great readings and workshops already publicised there are readings from Leeds Trinity University, the winners of the LIPPfest poetry competition and a display from Artlink.
There will also be some great debating from The Leeds Salon, as well as talks and workshops on publishing, Geoffrey Hill, Robert Graves, and the voice of the Irish migrant in poetry.
Alongside the LIPPfest, the University's Stanley & Audrey Burton Gallery has prepared a special display entitled "LIPPS Unzipped", focusing on the history of independent publishing at the University. The display will be open until 28 September.
For full details (and tickets) for all the readings, workshops and everything else on offer please go to the LIPPfest website.
