Teaching the leaders of tomorrow
3 October 2011 - PLYMOUTH
From presenting on radio to becoming a student parliamentarian along with a host of volunteering opportunities – Plymouth University’s Open Day is set to showcase the vast array of extra-curricular activities the institution has to offer.
Every year, thousands of prospective students attend Open Day seeking information and insight into life with Plymouth University.
There will be an added focus upon employability and initiatives designed to boost skills and improve future success in employment and further study, through experiential-based learning, internships and placements.
There will also be an emphasis on a range of extra-curricular activities, including volunteering, becoming a Student Ambassador and signing up to the Plymouth Award – all designed to enhance the ‘student experience’.
Visitors will be able to talk to the Disability ASSIST and Routes to Higher Education teams about how to make the transition to life on campus, and to the Student Funding Unit about the new tuition fees.
The day will include a guided tour of the campus by current students, a visit to the City Centre and Barbican, drop in sessions on all subjects, as well as key topic talks on the UCAS application process and life as a student at Plymouth University.
The University is also equipped to give specialised careers advice at its one-stop-shop for students and graduates
Schools and Colleges Liaison Officer Iola Thomas said: “We are continuing to enhance the activities at the Open Day to ensure visitors get a real grasp of what life is like with Plymouth University and the opportunities it offers in terms of the student experience and future prospects.
“People will be able to explore the campus and city, and hear first-hand of the types of opportunities that await, and discover why we are a first-class, first-choice university.”
With more than 3,000 prospective students already registered to attend, people are being advised to book to avoid disappointment. The day will run from 10am to 4.30pm.
To register for the event, visit www.plymouth.ac.uk/ugopenday or telephone 01752 585858.
